Daily Blogging Dilemma
Two days after I decided to be serious in tech blogging, I’m faced with dilemmas. Dilemmas that most blogger has faced before.
Pointing Own Domain to WordPress.com
A domain cost $8.38 or RM27 with hidden whois service at Domainsite.com. What I don’t have is web hosting. Sure, WordPress.com can host this blog for me, but I have to pay $10 to map my own domain to it. $15 if you get the domain and domain mapping service. So, $8 for the web hosting. Sounds good, except that WordPress.com is pretty crippled. I could have invest more money and setup my uncrippled blog now.
Daily Blogging?
Is my target of daily blogging really feasible? I’m running this blog alone and to achieve daily blogging, I will have to reserve some post for days when I can’t commit to blogging. This means blogging into the future and having hours to make/edit post for the future. I didn’t blog at all yesterday…
Handling Diggs
Having one of my post on Digg.com frontpage will bring my WordPress.com blog down. Before that can happen, I need to setup plugins and have a large bandwidth. Invest and grow quickly or build a steady cost-effective traffic?
Breaking Even
I don’t really care about making a profit for now. I have decided that all the money from this blog should go into growth and investing in content like podcast and videos. I want to make movies and write honest gadget/hardware/software reviews. But will I even break even if I invest so much? Leo Laporte and countless people has said, “Make good content and people will come”. I assume this will also bring the money. LiewCF can live off it, so why can’t I?
Privacy
I don’t mind revealing my identity at all. But what effect will it have on my life? I don’t want to be expel from my university or fired from my job like many bloggers. I don’t want to have my life scrutinised and criticized.
I will have to decide what to do sooner or later. Time waits for no one.
